Denim Fit Tips By Body Shape
FLAT BUMS
- Try a tapered leg or skinny jean to make your bum more noticeable.
- Even a small kitten heel will add curves to your profile, a tall
heel will work wonders.
- Flap pockets will add dimension
- Wear jeans with embellishments on the back pockets, this will bring
attention to your bottom.
- Look for jeans with smaller pockets, small pockets will make the
bottom look bigger – optical illusion,.
- Flap pocket jeans are another good way of adding volume to the
rear, although make sure the back pockets don’t sit too low, as this will
give the appearance of a flat butt.
BOOTY BEAUTY
- Look for a stretch denim with a fitted waist.
- Stick to darker washes that have an all-over slimming effect.
- Many denim manufacturers make a specific style to flatter a shapely
butt with a narrower waist. Find out which cut is right for you in the
brand you desire.
PETITE & CHIC
- Skinny jeans are perfect, just stick to linear cuts like straight leg and
cigarette leg. Stay away from pencil or peg legs which tapers at the

- If you are short and want to minimize curves, choose a straight,
wide-leg trouser cut. Jeans that fit like a tailored pair of trousers will
give you an over-all sleek and polished look. Finish with an amazing pair
of heels.
- Need hemming? Ask your tailor for an "original hem" and
your unique hem will stay intact.
- Skinny jeans are great for petite ladies, as they make the legs
appear longer, however if you are a round petite lady you are best to
stick with wide leg jeans and trousers, they will also make the legs look
long and disguise hips and thighs at the same time.
- Always wear heels! Wedges, Stiletto’s etc. As a petite lady
you must wear high heels to do justice to your figure.
- Always ask your tailor to do an original hem on your jeans, this
way you don’t lose this often important design feature.
- Dark colors will make legs appear longer, stick with tailored
classic cuts.
TALL MODELS
- Look for a low rise with an longer inseam (36" at least)
- The denim industry has recently started making jeans longer and
longer so check out new styles and brands!
SHORT WAISTS
- Choose a jean with a low waist to lengthen the torso (7.5"
rise or less).
- Jeans with long pockets or pockets placed lower (example Taverniti So) balance proportions
- Avoid high waisted jeans that will make the torso look shorter.
- Go for low riding back pockets that will give the appearance of a
longer waist.
- Make sure you always go for a low-rise jean, the lower the
better. High-rise jeans will emphasize your lack of waist.
- Long tunic tops paired with skinny jeans will make the torso look
longer.
LONG WAISTS
- Look for a regular to high rise jean.
- Stay away from low-rises, try to get at least 8" of rise to
make legs look longer
- Go for high rise pants, you can rock the new high rise sailor pant
with a blouse tucked in, this will make the torso appear shorter and legs
longer.
- To elongate a shorter a leg try a wide or straight leg jean.
- Never wear tops that are too long in the body, this will emphasize
your long torso, go for waist length tops.
PRETTY PEAR
- Look for a dark, clean wash. Too much fading and distressing will
widen your shape.
- A straight leg or slight boot-cut will keep legs looking lean. Stay
away from a tapered or pencil leg. A sleek trouser cut jean will work
wonders!
- Skinny jeans can work, just choose cigarette and straight-leg cuts.
- Wear a heel to add height and lengthen legs. Also balance out the
thigh with a substantial shoe like a fierce boot.
- Stick with dark clean washes, that won’t emphasize your thigh/hip area.
- Stay clear of too much distressing especially around the bum and
thigh area.
- Stay with straight, bootcut or wide leg pants, peg legs or jeans
that are tight through the calf are not your friends.
- You can wear “Skinny Jeans” just stay away from tapered or peg leg.

APPLE SHAPE/BELLY
- Avoid jeans that are too tight on your waist, this will just
emphasize your problem area.
- Go for high-rise options that skim over your waist making it disappear
and stick to dark washes.
- Wear wide waist belts with you jeans, to make the waist area look
smaller.
